International Wedding Photographer – A little bit of Crete and Cafe Life in Patmos

I apologize for the lack of Travel Thursdays posts, as I have been very busy travelling. My recent trip to Vegas and my first cruise will be featured in later posts as I am still busy posting about last years trip to Greece.

I am combining two different islands into one post this week for a couple different reasons. They were both half day stops on my Greek Island cruise and one did not leave much of an impression on me.

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and is very close to Turkey. The port name is Heraklion. The port was nothing special to see. I was lucky enough to see a few very nice hotels including one that will cater to any of you who enjoy spending your vacation time on a beach with unlimited food and drinks without having to fork out any extra dough. That is correct there are a few hotels in Greece that allow its guests to book all-inclusive for an extra charge. This one hotel which also boasts an authentic Cretan experience is called the Creta Maris. Most of the photos you will see in this post that are from Crete were taken while I was visiting the Creta Maris.

Patmos was a little more interesting to me. We had an afternoon of free time on the island which allowed me to do my favourite thing while travelling, which is to wander. I think that is the best way to get to know a place. Now don’t get me wrong, organized tours are a great way to learn more about a museum, church or gallery if you have never visited before, but if you are visiting a town or city, I think there is more value in finding your own way around, safely. There are always hidden treasures such as stores or cafes that you may not see as a tourist.

The highlights for me was the baklava which I cannot believe I hadn’t tried until then and walking into the Aegean Sea.
