When I say this is our first family vacation, I mean it is our first trip together as a family on an airplane and outside of Canada.
Last Spring, Adam and I decided to take our son Braeden on his first airplane ride. And we went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It made perfect sense to go to Punta Cana as that is where Adam and I were married just over 7 years previous, back in 2007. It also made it a little more sentimental.
We took off from Toronto Pearson on April 27th, 2014. We were lucky enough to fly on one of the newly refurbished Air Transat planes. I had been invited to the Air Transat hangar in earlier 2012, but it was more enjoyable to be flying on it, especially for our holiday.
We decided instead of doing our normal Park n’ Fly, to stay at an airport hotel as our flight was pretty earlier in the morning and we thought it would be a better option due to travelling with a five year old. We stayed at the Sheraton Airport hotel which was also hosting CostumeCon which is similar to ComicCon but more intense with the costumes at least. It was an interesting start to our holiday. Braeden asked me why we weren’t dressed up. I don’t know, had I known the event was taking place, I may have dug through our Halloween costumes and participated.
Braeden was so well behaved at the airport and on the aircraft. We signed him up for the Air Transat Kid’s Club which is a complimentary inclusion for children registered between the ages of 2-12. I recommend it to anyone travelling with kids. It’s really great. Check out their website: https://www.airtransat.com/en/kids_club/
We stayed at the Barcelo Punta Cana which is 4 star all inclusive resort, directly on the beach. I can say plenty about the resort, but this blog post is not to serve as review on the resort. After all, it is more about the pictures. And a disclaimer about the photos, I was instructed by Adam that I was not bring my DSLR camera. These photos were taken with our new point and shoot camera and have not been edited in any way, they are straight out of camera.
