One of the reasons why I changed my passion for photography into a business can be seen in this photo of myself when I was travelling in Ireland. This was taken in August of 2005 on a surfing beach in the Dingle Peninsula. I love this photo of myself and that is not a common thing I say about photos of myself. I love this photo because I remember exactly how I felt at that time. I was 22 years old, it was my first big trip, and my first trip overseas. It was a very happy and exciting time in my life. When I look at this photo, all of that comes back to me.
Everyone has photos like that in their life, or at least I hope they do. And that is why I love photography and why I want to spend my life doing it. To be a part of a client’s best moments and to be able to capture those moments for them is an amazing feeling and I am blessed to be able to share that with my clients.
Now, once you have those photos taken, what should you do with them? You should have them printed!!
Some people choose to print them out and keep them in photo albums in a closet in their house, some people will print out a few of the extra special photos to hang in collage frames over the sofa, up the stairwell or on the mantel. But most people load them onto their computer from the camera or their phone to post on Facebook and stop there. Heck, I am guilty of it as well. And it is a shame.
Your home is an extension of who you are and who your family is. And there is no other way to show off your family and your most cherished memories than a beautiful wall gallery of your wedding day, a custom designed engagement or wedding album on your coffee table or a sexy boudoir print on your husband’s bedside table.
While having digital copies of your family photographs whether captured by you or a professional photographer is a great option, digital copies do not have the same “wow” factor as an album or wall prints.
My challenge to each of you is to start printing out your family photographs and displaying them in your home. I am going to be doing the same thing.
